ALAN SCOTT, Professor of Sociology, University of Innsbruck
Before coming to Innsbruck in 1999, Alan Scott taught at the UEA, Norwich and University of Southampton prior to which he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Nuffield College, Oxford. He studied Philosophy and Sociology at the University of Essex and took a PhD in Sociology at the University of Leeds. Visiting positions:
My main research interests lie in political sociology, organizational governance, and social theory. I am Project Leader of a NODE (New Orientations for Democracy in Europe) research project: "Governance: Multi-Level or Post-Democratic?", a member of the Board (Vorstand) of Wissenschaft und Verantwortlichkeit [Science and Responsibility] (WuV), convener for the Faculty's research programme on Contemporary Europe: Governance and Civil Society (GCS), and the representative within the University for an MA in Peace Studies organized jointly by the University and the Tyrolian Provincial Government. In 2008 a new online journal, Sociology Compass (Blackwell), was launched. I am a subeditor of the section on political sociology (also covering aspects of economic and urban sociology).
