Due to global climate change, glaciers in the Alps are retreating; where these glaciers are used as ski areas, the economic importance is considerable and efforts are made to prevent these glaciers from melting.
Biodegradable and conventional white fleeces are used to increase the albedo, and thus reduce glacier melt-off. The aim of our part of the project is to investigate the biodegradability of these fleeces in situ and to detect possible effects on the ice microbial community.
