Short Curriculum Vitae
Marta Goberna was born in 1976 in Valencia (Spain). She obtained her Biology degree in 1999 from
the Universitat de València. During the same year, she worked with Ing. Huaman (Cuzco, Peru)
researching the effects of traditional land-use practices in the depletion of soil organic carbon.
From 2000 to May 2006, she worked in the Centro de Investigaciones sobre Desertificación (CSIC,
Universitat de València, GV), collaborating in several projects on soil characterisation for land-use
planning and fighting against desertification. Marta completed her PhD in Pedology (2000-2004),
researching the Microbial biomass, activity and community structure in semi-arid Mediterranean
forest soils under the supervision of Drs. Sánchez and Pascual. During her PhD, she worked during
brief periods in other research centres, joining the groups of Prof. Dr. García (Centro de Edafología
y Biología Aplicada del Segura, Murcia) in 2001 and Prof. Dr. Insam (Universität Innsbruck, Austria)
in 2003. Since June 2006, Marta is back in Austria for her PostDoc.
